Do I Need A Crown After A Root Canal?

To Need a Dental Crown, Or Not to Need a Dental Crown

Whether or not a tooth needs a crown after a root canal depends on how large the cavity was, and which tooth is being treated.

Why Might I Need a Dental Crown After a Root Canal?

After the infected nerve is removed during the root canal procedure, the tooth is less resistant to fracture.  This is especially true for back teeth, which take the majority of the chewing force.  So if your tooth had a very large cavity or filling prior to the root canal procedure, and especially if the tooth is a back tooth, a crown will be recommended to protect the tooth from fracturing.
