All About Veneers

If you are unhappy with the shape or color of your teeth, there are many ways we can improve the appearance of your smile.  One method is to use dental veneers. Veneers are porcelain coverings placed on the front side of the tooth to improve aesthetics, including color, shape or length. They are bonded to the tooth surface and cannot be removed at home. Veneers are thinner than a dental crown and you care for them the same way you would a natural tooth.

What to Expect

On the first visit, Dr. Essenmacher will prepare the teeth for the new veneers.  This will often involve some reshaping of the tooth, and then a mold (also called an impression) will be taken to capture the shape of the teeth.  Temporary veneers will be fabricated to wear while the final ceramic veneers are being custom made by the dental technician.  This process usually takes about 2 weeks.  At your second visit, we will remove the temporary veneers and place the final veneers.  Before cementing them, we will show them to you to make sure you are 100% happy with your new smile.

Because veneers are permanently bonded to your teeth, they can provide many years of use.  Like any other dental work, veneers sometimes need to be replaced if they get chipped, if the gums recede, or if the tooth underneath the veneer gets a cavity.
